The Black Mouth Cur Dog Breed
Description: Black Mouth Curs are strong with heavy muscular chests, a dome-shaped
head. The black mouth cur's strong square shaped muzzle is usually black. Their ears hang
beside their heads and they have a long tail which may be docked.
The Ladner Blackmouth Cur is a dog that is a native of southern Mississippi and the
gulf coast area. The Ladner family, the original breeders, have been hunting with and
breeding these dogs for many generations. The southern United States is well populated
with other cur-type dogs that should not be confused with the Black Mouth Cur, the Kemmer
Stock Mountain Cur is one such example. It was a Black Mouth Cur who played the role of
"Old Yeller," in the famous Disney movie Old Yeller.

Colors: The black mouth cur comes in reddish - golden yellow, fawn, sandy yellow,
with or without a black muzzle or mask.
Coat: The short smooth coat of the black mouth cur is easy to groom and only requires
brushing as necessary. Over bathing can cause dry skin. Toenails should be clipped
regularly.
Temperament: Black mouth curs are protective of their masters and their families and
can be reserved or suspicious of strangers. Even-tempered and very loyal, Black Mouth Curs
make excellent hunting companions. Male black mouth curs prefer the company of female humans.
They are also protective of children and will object if a child is disciplined. Black Mouth
Curs should not be trusted with non-canine pets, this breed will do anything to please its
master.
Health Concerns: The black mouth cur is a relatively healthy breed.
Living Environment: Black Mouth curs are large dogs with a strong hunting instinct and
therefore require plenty of excercise.
Life Expectancy: About 12-16 years.
